Taking two concepts from the Less Wrong website, KMO spins a spiel of inferential distance and intellectual hipsters. As a smart person, you need to signal your disagreement with the mid-brow herd on just about any issue. It doesn't matter if the simpletons are right in their unsophisticated take, your job is to gravitate to a worldview which is so rich with nuance and difficult to grasp, that you have to be a smarty pants just to understand it.
