"C" stands for consciousness

Episode 122: A Random Walk w/ Bruce Damer

KMO welcomes Bruce Damer to the C-Realm to discuss a range of topics including space colonization, artificial intelligence, the singularity, and some more realistic but still heady possibilities that arise from the technological trends shaping human experience here on the cusp of whatever it is that seems poised to overtake us.

Some of the books discussed include Stand On Zanzibar, Rainbow's End, and Postsingular

The podcast includes a song by Sharon Little called "Accidentally" from her album "Perfect Time for a Breakdown."

  • weird how i’ve said the word ZANZIBAR several times last few days .. just for limerick’s sake — it came into my head, no specific reason

  • It sounds like some delicious chocolate… or a place you can’t afford to go on a plane:)

But it really does look like a dragon on a nose dive.

OK, I admit it… I may not be thinking straight. I still think it’s a great name for a chocolate bar.

KMO, if you’d got this out earlier I wouldn’t be this drunk by now, hahahaha.

  • Bruce Damer was excellent. I don’t think this is the main point of the interview but I’m very impressed that someone who was/is so enmeshed in the entire technological sphere is able to be so grounded. In other words, I think it rare to see people involved with computers and what-not, who recognize how surreal it is to get blasted with text messages and blinking messages. Mr. Damer’s interest in farming and getting his hand’s dirty with the tactile reality of raising pot-bellied pigs seems to me a sane strategy with dealing with such ubiquitous technology.
