61: The Case Against Drug Tourism

[edit: 15 Aug 2008] Marlene Dobkin de Rios, ten months after this episode first appeared on the web, has decided that she doesn’t like it. She insisted that Melitta Tchaicovsky assert control of the copyright and instruct me to remove the interview from the internet. Obviously, this is a profoundly clueless request as I do not control the entire internet (actually she wanted me to remove “the tape” from the internet), but I have removed the interview from the official C-Realm Podcast archive, which is all that I have the power to do.

You can find a discussion of this development on the C-Realm Forum at the Grow Report:

In this 61st episode, KMO plays a recording of Marlene Dobkin De Rios on why she condemns the practice of ayahuasca tourism. Before that, KMO plays a conversation that he recorded back in July in the Iquitos home of Alan Shoemaker with Melitta Tchaicovsky & Pepe Ozan of ArtNetwork Productions.

I wanted to make my own branded coffee cup on Cafe Press once, for a business venture that is neither here nor there. But I was—and remain—deeply distraught by their lack of covered travel mugs. In my view, hot beverages cool too quickly in uncovered beverage conveyance vectors. With such conventional mugs it’s always like a race against ambient temperature. And I for one do not need to be rushed. I don’t need that. I have at best two, three good servings of coffee or tea per day. It’s not a damned sprint. It needs to be drawn out and savored. That’s my philosophy. So yeah I’m holding out for the travel mugs. Or something.

    The Case For “Drug Tourism”

Wanted to mention this short ayahuasca film in three parts. Maybe Dr. Marlene will come across it one day. And of course, if she saw trick or treaters in her ayahuasca journey then it makes perfect sense to assume all psychedelic experiences are just reflexions of one’s social and cultual structures.Paraphrasing her a bit there. I did not grow up in the Bronx,I grew up in the country, we didn’t have any machine elves in those woods… or did we? Hahaha.

Thank-you,thank-you for episode #61! I was surprised and delighted:)
